When they first started to be offered some employers were skeptical of online university degrees, but this is changing. However, before you sign up for online classes, there are some things that you should consider.

First, if you are thinking of taking online high school courses or online college classes, you need to make sure that the institution offering the classes is accredited. If not, then it is unlikely that these courses would count toward your degree. Although many online schools have been accredited, in some cases the school is not accredited or a particular program might not be accredited. Check with your school as well to make sure that they are willing to accept these credits if you are not taking them through the school that you plan to get your degree from. Not all schools will let you transfer all courses from other schools, so this is an important step to take so that you don’t end up wasting your time and your money.

Second, you should make sure that you have the time management and motivation to actually do the course work in a timely manner. If there isn’t a set class time it can be hard for some people to actually get around to doing the work. Make sure you set aside the time for this so you don’t leave all the work till the last minute. This might make it so that you don’t actually complete the class, or you don’t do well in the class.

That said, by pursuing on online degree you can open up more opportunities, as there might be courses or degree options open to you that wouldn’t be if you had to attend a classroom based program that was located near you. With online courses you can attend universities that are located anywhere in the country in many cases, as long as there isn’t any on campus course work that is required for you to complete your degree.
