The debate surrounding the current immigration laws in the country has become extremely complex and very heated. Organizations on both sides of the issue are quick to point out the flaws or the perceived dangers of the solutions that their rivals support. Many of them are also quick to – in the best political tradition – throw around many different accusations of unethical practices. Nevertheless, organizations like the Federation for American Immigration Reform continue to support the issues that they believe are important. The Federation for American Immigration Reform has stated that they believe the current level of immigration is detrimental to the country’s interests. They have pointed to numerous studies and polls that suggest the number of illegal immigrant coming into the country each year is causing problems in both the economic and social realms of society. In other words, they claim that wages are dropping, jobs are being lost, the environment is being strained too much, and the likelihood of criminals and terrorists getting into the country is too great a risk. They have also pointed to statistics that seem to say that the education, social security, insurance, and other institutions are having trouble keeping up with so many undocumented people. The Federation for American Immigration Reform has stated that their response to this situation is to try and end illegal immigration, set legal immigration to the lowest levels possible that are still conducive to the national interest, and increasing the level of security at all the borders. In order to promote their goals, FAIR has used many different channels to spread their information and research to as many people as possible. This includes lobbying congress, appearing on radio and television shows, and publishing information over the web and in print. While there are many organizations on both sides of this debate, FAIR continues to support the issues it sees as important.
