My uncle who lives in the United Kingdom has three children who are all dependents. He says that during these times of economic crisis, he is having a hard time providing for his family, being just a salesman for an automobile company, one of the worst-hit industries worldwide. Thus, there couldn’t be a better time for the child benefit payments to help him get through the worst. While one of the original purposes of this social security program is to encourage more children especially during the post-war era, it is now helping lots of people as I’m pretty sure that my uncle’s sentiment is shared by thousands of other people who live a rather quintessential life as his.
For those who do are not aware of this provision given by the government, child benefits are payments given to either parents or guardians of children as part of the social security program. In the United Kingdom, twenty pounds is given weekly to the first child and, thirteen pounds and twenty cents to the succeeding ones. This is true as of January of last year. Additionally, many countries also provide children’s tax credit as an additional benefit for families who are earning a less than average income. In the United States, for example, the Child Tax Credit, provided for in Section 24 of their Constitution, is deducted from the tax liabilities for families making less than $130,000 per year. These benefits, when combined together, will ensure that having dependents will not be too burdensome to those who raise them. Furthermore, it will give time for parents to focus more in improving the quality of life that their family is having.
