For those who have not yet tried reflexology, going through the whole process of thinking what a reflexology session looks like is indeed stressing and at times may actually discourage one to go through with the session. The truth is there is nothing to be afraid of in reflexology. The techniques used to massage the hands and foot of the client are only gentle forms of stroke and does not include stretches that may even cause discomfort to a person.
So what will you expect in a reflexology session? What really happens during reflexology?
A single reflexology session may actually last from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the needs of the client. For those who are just doing the session to relax and improve the overall wellbeing and health of their body, a normal session may only take 30 minutes or a little more. But for those who are undergoing reflexology as a form of treatment to a health problem, a single reflexology treatment could last up to an hour or two.
In a reflexology treatment, the therapist refers to a reflexology foot chart or a reflexology hand chart to precisely determine what parts of the hands and feet should be given much attention. The therapist then uses a number of hand, finger and thumb massage techniques to apply pressure to the different reflex zones as indicated in the reflexology charts.
The massage techniques used in reflexology are firm but not too heavy strokes. Actually, the amount of pressure may be adjusted to perfectly suit the needs of a client.
After the session, it is highly probable that you will feel more relaxed and stress free.
