I never wanted the idea of adopting another family member. My mom was like the only person in the house who is very willing to have another baby in the house via adoption. I am opposing the idea because I fear the lifetime commitment that goes with that. You are actually inviting another life and we have to all dedicate ourselves in making that child like one of our own. I felt then that if my mom insists with this, the family would be in big trouble. And knowing my mom, she would not stop until she convinces dad. Soon after, we had this child on-board. It was four years ago when we all made the decision. After nearly 2000 days, all my apprehensions and doubts were washed away. The child that we took in was indeed a blessing. Treating her like our own did not pose any challenge to anyone of us. The moment she came inside the house, she brought a different kind of peace, love and joy. Today, I just taught her how to connect internet to her own laptop. I remember when dad taught me the first time how to connect multiple computers to internet. He said at 10, he saw that I will be the next Bill Gates, even if I am a girl. My mom told me that my sister is just like me. Even if we came from different wombs, we were bred by the same genuine heart. She has become a constant source of inspiration for all of us. Every single day, we look forward to going home and seeing her smile at us. The joy of being able to help a child by giving her a better life is very rewarding, indeed.
